My story …

My journey started many years ago and has taken many turns along the way but in 2012, after a successful corporate career, I made a leap of faith, followed my passion and embarked on this exciting creative journey.

With nothing more than a budding passion, I went on to train as gemmologist and jewellery designer. I soon realised my instincts were right - I had found my “thing”. I graduated with honours, in 2013, from the Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) in London.

It was during my training that I really fell in love with the beauty of the world that exists under the surface and inside gemstones. The more I understood and learnt, the more the world of jewellery came to life for me. 

During my studies, one of my teachers once told me that “Mother Nature cooks in a very dirty kitchen” and boy was he right.

I had come across this concept before when I was 24 and studying in Japan. I learned about Japanese aesthetics and the concepts of Wabi-Sabi and kintsugi - where items are more beautiful when they are flawed, have been broken or are imperfect in some way.  

This counter-intuitive thinking profoundly changed my attitude to nature and natural materials, informing the essence of my own design aesthetics.

An appreciation of nature’s individuality and our beautifully flawed world has remained central to my design approach ever since, and I love to use all gemstones, including lesser known one, as I believe they are all, like us, full of character and individuality in their own way.

Other key design influences are the many different cultures I have encountered over the course of my travels, and of course, the pieces I just love to wear myself. It’s not just about how a jewel looks, but how it actually makes you feel when it is worn.

my signature designs are bold, edgy and sometimes unconventional. Even a simple wedding band can have an element of surprise, but a sense of fun in the design never comes at the cost of quality.  

Assisting a client to choose a gemstone, designing new pieces, be it through my own creativity or a collaborative process to bring to life a client’s idea is what my creative journey is all about.
